Ceremony Launch for 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins As the March 5, 2012 release date of the Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins approaches, the U.S. Mint on Monday revealed images for each of the four commemoratives and two-coin proof set, published online pages that will be used to order them and has provided details for their ceremonial launch. The 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins celebrate the bicentennial writing of America’s national anthem by Francis Scott Key. The $5 gold coins and silver dollars bear designs emblematic of the War of 1812, with representations depicting a naval battle scene from the War of 1812, the Star-Spangled Banner anthem, Lady Liberty waiving a 15-star, 15-stripe Star-Spangled Banner flag and a waving modern American flag.
A ceremony to launch the commemorative coins is scheduled to begin by 11:00 AM ET on March 5 at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Visitor Center, located at 2400 East Fort Avenue in Baltimore, MD. Expected attending officials include:

US Mint Sales: Bullion Coins

Sales of U.S. Mint bullion coins remain weak when contrasted against the previous month or from the same time a year ago.
On a weekly basis, each of the bullion gold coins improved, with the one-tenth once Gold Eagle showing on the sales board for the first time this month. Silver Eagles sales, however, are down. The following table highlights:

This is the fourth coin released in 2011 in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series and features Lucretia Garfield, the wife of President James Garfield. It is a one-half ounce 24-karat gold coin struck in proof condition, giving it a frosted foreground and a mirror-like background. The obverse features a portrait of Lucretia Garfield. The reverse depicts her interest in art and features her painting on a canvas with brush and palette in hand. This coin is encapsulated and packaged in a custom-designed, highly polished, dome-chested, lacquered hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Lucretia Garfield First Spouse Gold Coins have a maximum mintage of 15,000 across all product options. The ratio of proof coins to uncirculated coins will be determined by customer demand within the total maximum issuance of 15,000.

This marks the fifth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, the United States Mint’s first coin program to feature our Nation’s first spouses. A minimum of four one-half ounce, $10 24-karat gold coins will be minted and released annually in the order the spouses served in the position. The coins are minted in proof and uncirculated condition and are available individually. Each First Spouse Gold Coin coincides with the release of the corresponding circulating Presidential $1 Coin. In 2011, the United States Mint will release four coins in the series - Eliza Johnson, Julia Grant, Lucy Hayes, and Lucretia Garfield.

The obverse of this coin was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso.

The El Yunque National Forest quarter is the first to be released in 2012 and the 11th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters^® Program. Each two-roll set consists of 80 quarters: one roll of 40 coins with the “P” mint mark for Philadelphia and one roll of 40 coins with the “D” mint mark for Denver.

The quarter’s reverse (tails side) image depicts a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot behind an epiphyte plant with tropical flora in the background. The Puerto Rican parrot is a highly endangered species unique to Puerto Rico, and its recovery began with the few birds left in El Yunque. Inscriptions are EL YUNQUE, PUERTO RICO, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of El Yunque National Forest. Each coin in the series features a common obverse (heads) with the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

The American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin is the first 24-karat gold proof coin ever struck by the United States Mint and is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin. Containing one ounce of .9999 fine 24-karat gold, these lustrous coins are among the world’s purest gold coins. The coin is presented in an elegant hardwood box with a matte finish and a faux leather inset. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The designs are based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser. The obverse features a profile of a Native American. The reverse features a representation of an American Buffalo (also known as a bison).

The 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Defenders of Freedom Set is a limited-edition collectible set with a production limit of 50,000. It includes a proof silver dollar, a replica dog tag on a miniature chain and a famous quote from President John F. Kennedy and showcases the Army motto, all in a custom folder.

The 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar coin designs are emblematic of the courage, pride, sacrifice, sense of duty and history of the Infantry.

The obverse (heads side) design features a modern Infantry soldier on rocky ground charging forward and beckoning to the troops to follow, symbolizing the “Follow Me” motto of the Infantry. Inscriptions are LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and 2012. The representation of the contemporary soldier captures the essence of the Infantry’s motto.

America’s Founding Fathers 2012 Currency Set Release

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) has announced its upcoming America’s Founding Fathers 2012 Currency Set, featuring George Washington and Thomas Jefferson bills.

Each currency set has a Series 2009 $1 note with a portrait of George Washington and a Series 2003A $2 note with Thomas Jefferson’s portrait. They are from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis with matching serial numbers that begin with "2012."
The release is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 8:00 AM Eastern Time (ET) and the price is $19.95. A household order limit of 50 sets will be in place until Sunday, March 4. If inventory remains beyond that day, the household limit will be removed and bulk pricing will be available for $16.95 for orders containing 50 sets or more.
In all, up to 9,000 sets will be produced and sold in 2012, making the America’s Founding Fathers 2012 Currency Set a limited-edition. Special packaging includes a decorative tri-fold display folder, and the notes are protected in a clear acid-free polymer sleeve. Shipments will start on March 5, 2012.
